Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. A child of Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family members, this came naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons came second from a household of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen excelled at sports and enjoyed playing rough sports. Her passion for sports was matched by an equally natural aptitude for performing. That was apparent when she was awarded each Feis for drama and theater that Ireland had to offer. At age 14, she had been admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue the art of opera and classical theatre.
